The Waves and Waters of Time

Many have observed the pull of the sea

Identified it with the pulse of life

Noticed it knew us from the beginning

And counted to claim us at the end

We once crawled from the oceans of time

Leaving the waters we watch from afar

Drawn ever closer to the encroaching

Promising one day to erase our traces

And wash the sand smooth again

Until then we watch the gathering build

Higher

Taller

Furl and curl and fold and flow into one as the water spreads out and the foam fluffs

When the height grows too great the shape shifts

As the weight builds too mighty the base spreads

Never still, never quiet, but always at peace

Equilibrium holds center even in wild winds

Grave strength arches apparent and implied

But sometimes imperceptible from far away

The closer and more dissected, the stronger and more fearsome

Granularity of enhanced perception prompts fear or calm, hope of acceptance

Resignation to the washing over

No clear separation between sand and sea

Zoomed in there is a wash, a melee, a melange of particles

Up close, all that exists is oneness

One combined dissolved existence

A medley of soluble matter and insoluble energy

Lapping towards your shadow

The waves get closer and closer

Until eventually the water washes over

And falls back over clean sand

Where you once were

Float

relinquish

Gone out with the tide

We all get washed away in the end
