Asheville Eats

Updated: Apr 29, 2022

I had some good eats in Asheville! I didn't go to all of the popular eateries by any means, but here are some of my favorite spots:

#1 Dobra Tea

Absolutely loved this place. I only wish I had gone even more days in a row. The atmosphere is perfect for hanging out and reading or chatting. I loved the tea services and the snacks were delicious. Everyone working there was knowledgeable and pleasant. This is a spot to really sit back and appreciate.

#2 City Bakery

First of all, the cheddar scallion biscuit. 'Nuff said.

But also, the staff is great, the pastries are delicious (try to get the last cinnamon roll) and they make excellent coffee. There is interesting local art on the walls and they have a good selection of seating. I hung out here to read and eat many times.

#3 Chai Pani

Hard to get a table sometimes because it is super busy because it is really good. The thalis are fun with all of the accoutrements. But my favorite was the aloo tiki chaat. They make everything from scratch and have a fun perspective on Indian food (focused on street food with its colors and textures).

I also really liked:

le Bon (gypsy wagon, good lattes and local pastries, quirky and friendly)

the Rhu cafe (quiche winner and healthy, nice window counter with plants)

Bebette's (lavender latte with chicory and fresh-to-order beignets)

Nine Mile (an old favorite, Caribbean curries with exquisite sauces and fresh bread)

Dripolator (Black Mountain, best chocolate croissant around- so flaky, perfect lattes)

I still want to try the Ethiopian restaurant, maybe the European bakery and some others. But if I could only pick one place, I would go back to Dobra Tea a million times over.

Outside of Asheville, I have to mention Doc's 321 Cafe on Route 321 near Cosby, TN. Amazing scratch-made food, quirky fun decor, friendly wonderful owners, and a fun stop where you can eat in a bus. Do not pass it up if you find yourself in the area!
